STA · The Wand

A gentler, computer-controlled approach to dental injections.

For many people, the injection is the most worrying part of a dental visit. The Wand uses computer-controlled delivery to regulate the flow of local anaesthetic, helping reduce the pressure and discomfort often associated with a conventional syringe.

Understanding the treatment

It controls the flow—not your dentist’s hand pressure alone.

Local anaesthetic discomfort is influenced by tissue pressure and how quickly the solution enters. The Wand delivers anaesthetic at a controlled rate while providing feedback to the clinician.

Its small pen-like handpiece can feel less intimidating and gives fine tactile control. Depending on the procedure, it may also allow a single-tooth technique that reduces unnecessary numbness of the lip, cheek or tongue.

No injection can be promised to feel completely painless for every person. The aim is a more controlled, less intimidating and often more comfortable experience.

Why it may help

Designed to reduce anxiety and injection discomfort.

01

Controlled flow

Computer-regulated delivery limits sudden pressure changes that can make injections uncomfortable.

02

Less intimidating

The slim pen-style handpiece looks and feels different from a conventional dental syringe.

03

Targeted anaesthesia

Selected single-tooth techniques may numb the treatment area while reducing collateral soft-tissue numbness.

04

Clinical feedback

Dynamic pressure sensing provides visual and audible information that helps guide certain injection techniques.

Suitability

Who may appreciate The Wand?

The device can be used for many traditional local anaesthetic techniques as well as selected computer-guided techniques.

Common indications

  • Adults or children anxious about needles
  • Patients with a previous uncomfortable injection experience
  • Treatment where gradual delivery is desirable
  • Selected single-tooth restorative procedures
  • Patients who wish to minimise lip or cheek numbness where clinically appropriate
  • Procedures requiring controlled palatal or periodontal-ligament delivery

What to understand

  • A very fine dental needle is still used
  • Sensation varies between people and injection sites
  • Not every tooth or procedure suits single-tooth anaesthesia
  • Additional anaesthetic may occasionally be required
  • Normal precautions for local anaesthetic still apply
  • The dentist selects the safest appropriate technique

What to expect

A calm injection with controlled delivery.

  1. 01

    Explain and position

We discuss the technique and place the lightweight handpiece at the selected injection site.

  2. 02

    Begin slowly

The system starts delivery at a controlled rate to help the tissues accommodate the solution.

  3. 03

    Monitor pressure

Feedback supports accurate positioning during selected STA techniques.

  4. 04

    Confirm numbness

We allow time for onset and test the area before beginning dental treatment.

The Wand is designed to improve comfort, but individual sensation varies and no injection method can guarantee a completely pain-free experience.
